New in GateIn 3.6 is the inclusion of a portal site which has been specifically designed to be optimized for mobile and touch based devices. This site is designed with responsive principals to give the best experience regardless if the user is using a desktop, a tablet, a mobile phone or any other device. This new site can be discovered at http://localhost:8080/portal/mobile.
The site uses a responsive design and will change the content flow of the page based on the width of the device accessing it. What this means is that the site will adapt to the width of the browser and is designed to work seamlessly across various sizes of desktop monitors, tablets, phones and other devices. This site does not have a fixed width like the classic site and portlets should be designed to work properly with this characteristic in mind.
The shared layout, or user bar, which is usually displayed at the top of the page for a logged in user is set by default to be only viewable by administrators. For normal users this bar will not be displayed. The previous functionality of the user bar has been mostly moved to a new responsive header portlet, except for page edit functionality and site navigation links. The user bar can be configure to be displayed for all users, like on the classic site, through the use of a portal property.
Automatic redirection. The redirection service has been configured by default to redirect mobile devices to the mobile site. If a user tries to access the site from a desktop, they should not be redirected and should still be taken to the classic site. For more information about the redirect service and how to configure it, please see Site Redirection
The portal redirection service will remember which site the user was last using as their preferred site. As such, you will be redirected to this preferred site on subsequent visits. The automatic redirection will only be checked the first time the user accesses the site. Please see Site Redirection for more information.
